If you are covered by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and are considering treatment in Florida, your plan may cover medical detox at Allure Detox in West Palm Beach. Our admissions team can verify your benefits by phone and explain exactly how your New Jersey plan works at a Florida facility before you make any decisions.
Under the federal Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, most health plans must cover substance use and mental health treatment on terms comparable to other medical care. Horizon plans include these behavioral health benefits, and they are what pay for detox and treatment.
How a Horizon Plan Works in Florida
Horizon is the Blue Cross Blue Shield plan for New Jersey, but Blue plans share a national program called BlueCard. For most Horizon PPO and similar plans, BlueCard lets you receive care from providers in the local Blue network when you are outside New Jersey. In Florida, that local network is Florida Blue. This is how many Horizon members use their coverage at Allure Detox.
Horizon HMO plans generally limit non-emergency care to New Jersey, so if you have an HMO we will need to review your plan with you. Which plan you have is the first thing we confirm during your benefits check.
Why Some New Jersey Residents Choose Florida for Detox
Distance helps. Being away from the people, places, and routines tied to drinking or drug use makes the first days of recovery easier for many clients, and it gives families some breathing room too. Privacy is another reason: treatment far from home stays private from neighbors, coworkers, and acquaintances. And availability matters. When someone is ready, waiting for a bed can be the difference between starting treatment and changing their mind.
How Horizon Coverage Works for Detox
Is detox covered?
Horizon plans generally cover medically necessary treatment for substance use disorders, including medically supervised detox, residential treatment, and medication-assisted treatment. Coverage for co-occurring mental health conditions is usually part of the same benefit.
Is authorization required?
Inpatient detox and residential treatment usually require prior authorization, and continued stays are reviewed for medical necessity. Our admissions team submits the request and our clinical team provides the documentation.
What will I pay?
Your cost depends on your plan’s deductible, copays, and coinsurance, and on whether Allure is in network for your plan through BlueCard. We go over the expected costs with you before admission.
Medical Detox at Allure
Medical detox manages the physical symptoms of withdrawal safely and prepares you for treatment. As the National Institute on Drug Abuse puts it, detox is a strongly indicated first step before effective addiction treatment, not a substitute for it.
We provide medically supervised detox for alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, stimulants, and other substances. Every client is assessed on arrival and given an individualized plan. Medications are used where appropriate to ease symptoms such as insomnia, anxiety, and physical discomfort, and clients are monitored around the clock. Once you are medically stable, you begin meeting with our clinical team to plan what comes next.
Verify Your Horizon Coverage
Call our admissions team with the information on your Horizon card. We confirm your plan type, verify your behavioral health benefits and BlueCard access, request any authorization needed, and explain your costs. The insurance verification is free and confidential, and it usually takes a few minutes.
