Drug use can go from “just trying it out” to “I can’t function without it” faster than most people expect. It can happen at any age and in any neighborhood, and it is not a sign of weakness.

If you live in Miami and need help, it is not too late. Allure Detox is a licensed medical detox and residential treatment center in West Palm Beach, about 70 miles north of Miami, and many of our clients come to us from Miami-Dade County.

This page explains how addiction works, the types of drug rehabilitation available to Miami residents, which of those levels of care we provide ourselves, and how to get started.

What’s Drug Addiction?

Addiction, clinically called substance use disorder, means continuing to use a substance even though it is causing harm, and finding it very hard to stop.

Miami, Florida

Many people think stopping is a matter of willpower. It is not. Addiction is a chronic brain disorder that changes how the brain handles reward, stress, and self-control, which is why cravings can override a sincere decision to quit.

That is why people living with addiction do best with professional support: medical care for withdrawal, and clinical care for what comes after.

Miami is a major port city, and that has long made South Florida a point of entry for illicit drugs. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) tracks substance use and treatment trends across Florida in its Behavioral Health Barometer.

What’s Rehabilitation?

Drug rehabilitation is the process of treating a person who is dependent on an addictive substance. It combines medical and psychotherapeutic approaches, and the right mix depends on the substance, how long it has been used, and the person’s health.

South Florida has one of the largest recovery communities in the country, so Miami residents have many options close to home. Some people choose to stay local. Others prefer to begin treatment a short drive away, where there is some distance from the people and places tied to their use.

Types of Drug Rehab Treatments

Drug rehab is not one program. It is a continuum of care, and most people move through more than one level as they stabilize.

Allure Detox provides the first stages of that continuum, medical detox and residential treatment, at our West Palm Beach facility. Later stages are arranged before you leave, often through our sister facilities in the Recreate Behavioral Health Network. Each section below notes where that level of care happens.

Drug Rehab in Miami, Florida

These are the 13 types of treatment Miami residents will come across most often.

1. Detoxification Programs

Detox is usually the first step. It is the period when the body clears the substance, and for alcohol, benzodiazepines, and opioids it should be medically supervised because withdrawal can be dangerous.

Medical detox is our core service at Allure. Nurses and behavioral health technicians monitor you around the clock, and withdrawal symptoms are treated as they appear.

2. Residential Treatment

Also called inpatient rehab, residential treatment programs are when patients live at the treatment center and receive 24-hour care.

This treatment program lets you focus on recovery without the pressures of home. Allure offers residential treatment at the same West Palm Beach facility, so you can move from detox into it without changing locations.

3. Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP)

Partial hospitalization programs, or day programs, provide several hours of structured treatment on most days of the week, including group therapy, family work, and medication monitoring. Patients go home or to sober housing afterward.

Allure does not run a PHP on site. When it is the right next step, our team arranges it before discharge, often at a sister facility in our network.

4. Outpatient Programs

Outpatient programs suit people who no longer need detox or round-the-clock monitoring, and people with milder substance use who can stay safely at home.

They provide scheduled therapy sessions each week so you can keep building healthy routines while returning to daily life. This level of care is provided by outpatient providers, not at Allure, and we help with the referral.

5. Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)

An intensive outpatient program offers more hours of therapy each week than standard outpatient care, while still leaving room for work, school, and family.

It is a common step down after residential treatment. Like PHP, it is arranged through our sister facilities or another trusted provider.

6. Sober Living Homes (Sober Living in Miami)

Sober living homes, sometimes called halfway houses, are a transitional step between residential treatment and living independently.

They are recommended for people who do not have a stable place to go after treatment, or who do not yet feel ready to be on their own. Allure does not operate sober homes, but our discharge planning can include finding one.

7. Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is one-on-one therapy that helps you understand what drives your substance use and build ways to cope with it, often using cognitive behavioral therapy.

It is part of treatment at Allure and continues through every later level of care.

8. Group Counseling

Group therapy brings together people with similar experiences in a setting led by a clinician.

Hearing from others who understand what you are going through reduces isolation and helps people support one another in staying sober.

9. Family Therapy

Family therapy involves the people closest to you in your treatment. It helps repair relationships strained by addiction and shows family members how to support recovery at home.

For Miami families, sessions can often be joined remotely, so distance does not have to keep anyone out of the process.

10. 12-step Programs

12-step programs follow a structured set of principles for staying sober, supported by regular meetings and a sponsor.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) are the best known, and both hold meetings throughout Miami-Dade County, which makes them easy to continue once you are home.

11. Holistic Therapies

Holistic therapies complement medical and clinical treatment. At Allure these include yoga, acupuncture, massage, chiropractic care, and physical therapy, which can ease the physical discomfort and stress that come with early recovery.

12. Dual Diagnosis

Dual diagnosis treatment is for people who have a substance use disorder along with a co-occurring mental health condition such as anxiety, depression, or trauma. Both are treated at the same time, because treating only one tends to leave the other driving a relapse.

13. Aftercare Programs

After completing a treatment program, aftercare provides ongoing support and relapse prevention. Your aftercare plan is built before you leave Allure, so you return to Miami knowing what comes next.
