If you are covered by GHI, part of EmblemHealth, your plan may help pay for medical detox at Allure Detox in West Palm Beach, Florida. GHI covers many New York City employees, retirees, and their families, and a number of them use their benefits for treatment in Florida each year. Our admissions team can verify your coverage by phone and explain how your plan works at our facility before you decide anything.

Under the federal Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008, most health plans must cover mental health and substance use treatment on terms comparable to other medical care. GHI plans include these behavioral health benefits, and they are what pay for detox and addiction treatment.

Reviewing health insurance coverage for detox

The Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 (MHPAEA) is a federal law that generally prevents group health plans and health insurance issuers that provide mental health or substance use disorder (MH/SUD) benefits from imposing less favorable benefit limitations on those benefits than on medical/surgical benefits. How a GHI Plan Works in Florida

GHI is a New York plan, but many GHI plans, including the GHI Comprehensive Benefits Plan used by many City of New York employees, include out-of-network benefits that can be used outside New York. That is how many GHI members receive treatment at Allure. Some GHI plans are more limited, and HMO-type plans generally restrict non-emergency care to their own service area, so the first thing we confirm is which plan you have and what it allows.

If you are not sure what type of GHI plan you have, that is fine. Our admissions team can tell from the information on your card.

How GHI Coverage Works for Detox

Is detox covered?

GHI plans generally cover medically necessary treatment for substance use disorders, including medically supervised detox, residential treatment, and medication-assisted treatment. Coverage for co-occurring mental health conditions is usually part of the same benefit.

Is authorization required?

Inpatient detox and residential treatment usually require prior authorization, with continued stays reviewed for medical necessity. Our admissions team submits the request and our clinical team provides the documentation.

What will I pay?

Your cost depends on your plan’s deductible, copays, and coinsurance, and on whether Allure is treated as in network or out of network for your plan. Out-of-network care usually carries a higher cost share. We go over the expected costs with you before admission so there are no surprises.

Medical Detox at Allure

We provide medically supervised detox for alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, stimulants, and other substances. Each of these requires a different approach, so every client is assessed on arrival and given an individualized plan. Medications are used where appropriate to ease physical and emotional withdrawal symptoms, and clients are monitored around the clock by a team of physicians, nurses, and therapists who specialize in addiction medicine.

How long detox takes depends on the substance, how much was used, and for how long. Most stays last several days. Before you leave, our team works with you on what comes next so there is no gap between detox and ongoing treatment.

Verify Your GHI Coverage

When someone is ready for help, waiting makes it harder. Call our admissions team with the information on your GHI card. We confirm your plan type, verify your behavioral health benefits, request any authorization needed, and explain your costs. The insurance verification is free and confidential, and it usually takes a few minutes.
